Packing for Portugal
-
In late September, Southern Portugal is typically warm, dry, and sunny. Expect a Mediterranean climate with average daytime temperatures between 79-82 degrees and nighttime temps between 62-64 degrees.
Sintra tends to be about 5 degrees cooler than Lisbon due to its higher elevation and Atlantic breeze.
There is typically very little rain, if any.

Daytime:
Clothes for warm weather, like sundresses, capri pants, or shorts
Comfortable walking shoes (tennis shoes or sandals).
Hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen
Bathing suit, cover-up, and flip-flops
Waterbottle
There is VERY little rain in Southern Portugal in September; however, if you want to pack a raincoat here is a lightweight one that I like for travel because it has a hood.
Evening:
Nice pants and a blouse, skirts or dresses.
Dressy pair of shoes/sandals for nicer dinners.
Pashmina or a light cardigan for outside evening dining.
Casual clothes for less formal dinners

All hotels will have shampoo, conditioner, and lotion, but if you prefer to bring your own, please remember that if they are in your carry-on luggage, they need to be in 3.4oz/100ml containers inside a 1-quart size clear bag. Exemptions include liquid medications. Read here for more details.
Hotels will also provide hair dryers. If you bring a hair tool, please make sure it is dual voltage and bring a European plug adapter.
Remember to bring enough prescription medications and/or vitamins to last for the entirety of your trip. I like this color-coded pill box.
Pack ear plugs, an eye mask, and a neck pillow in your carry-on for the plane. I also recommend a cozy pair of socks if you aren’t wearing any already to keep your feet warm and comfortable.
Melatonin or Good Day sleep chocolates can be helpful for sleeping on the plane and after arrival.
No-Jet-Lag Tablets can help mitigate the effects of jet-lag.
Good Day energy chocolates and peppermint essential oil can help you stay awake after you land.
