Sitting at the foot of Table Mountain in nine acres of private gardens, the Mount Nelson has been Cape Town's most celebrated address since it opened in 1899. Known to generations of admirers as "The Nelly" or "The Pink Lady" for the blush hue applied by its Italian manager in 1918, the hotel has welcomed Winston Churchill, the Dalai Lama, and John Lennon in its time. Le Quartier Français — Franschhoek — Days 5–7
Part of the celebrated Leeu Collection, Le Quartier Français sits on Franschhoek's main street in the heart of what many consider South Africa's culinary capital. On the banks of the Savute Channel — a watercourse so unpredictable that its name translates simply as the mysterious— this lodge sits at the edge of Botswana's first national park in a landscape shaped by elephant, lion, and the vagaries of water. Twelve luxury tents raised on wooden stilts look out over a permanent waterhole, with private decks, en suite alfresco showers, and four-poster beds that make it easy to linger between drives.
