One of my favorite days started at the market in Goult with Monique, a local chef, shopping for that night's dinner. We tasted cheese at the fromagerie, squeezed tomatoes at the épicerie, chose the chickens at the boucherie. That evening we gathered around the big kitchen table with wine and hors d'oeuvres while she cooked: a tomato tart, chicken with fennel sauce, haricots verts, and a gluten-free chocolate chestnut cake. Everything fresh from the farm.
She made it look easy — which is not how I've tended to approach my own kitchen. I've been thinking since I got home that I might enjoy cooking even more if I adopt her approach: fun, creative, and simple.
